Task
In 2 weeks, at the beginning of each class, you will work in a team with 1 other student to do a joint, interactive presentation in which you take concepts learned in class and use them to help make sense of things that are happening in the world. That is, make the concepts from class relevant to everyday happenings and living. You can take any concepts from class—elements of visual design, “cultural myth,” etc. But make your presentation engaging and creative. Your goal: Leave a profound, memorable impression, upon the audience—shake up their thinking.
Requirements
- Plan for 10 minutes max. This includes your set up time.
- Share equal presentation time between you and your partner.
- Vary the artifact. If someone presented on a commercial last week, try something different.
- Strive to be creative, engaging and profound. Make your presentation memorable.
- Pose 1-2 major questions for us to consider at the end.
Evaluation Criteria
- Accurate: You and your partner accurately applied concepts from class without any error.
- Clear: Your explanations are clear and easy to understand.
- Organized: Your presentation is organized and easy to follow. It shows preparation.
- Intellectually Stimulating: Your analysis shows depth, deep thinking. It doesn’t just label the concepts. It identifies and applies the concept(s) and moves into a deep analysis, exposing something that is NOT obvious that got us thinking.
- Creative: You were not boring; the class was interested.
Logistics Advice
- If you’re linking to a website or online video, you might need to come to class early to set up, so it won’t cut into your presentation time.
- Aim for variety. Not everyone should do digital or visual artifacts. Adapt your artifact accordingly, depending upon what has already been presented. Anything goes.
- Be prepared to answer questions from class.
